Wonderful Geneva

TRAVEL

Geneva is the second most populous city in Switzerland and is located near the lake of the same name, otherwise also known as Lac Léman.

It’s a cosmopolitan city with prevailing diplomatic atmosphere. There is an European center of the United Nations, whose large marble building called the Palace of Nations is (after the Palace of Versailles) the largest building in Europe.

Despite its cosmopolitan character, Geneva retains the look of a typical Swiss small town. You can take a ride in typical blue trams, drink coffee in cafes with terraces in narrower alleys or stroll in the parks in the suburbs.

Places to visit:

  • Jet d’Eau

Jet d’Eau is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and also one of the largest fountains in the world. Situated at the point where Lake Geneva, it is visible throughout the city and from the air, even when flying over at an altitude of 10 km.

  • L’horloge fleurie

L’horloge fleurie (the flower clock) was created in 1955 as a symbol of the city’s watchmakers and dedication to nature. Usually, around 6500 flowers and shrubs are used as decoration for this clock. The decoration is changed each time the seasons of the year change.

  • La Treille Promenade

While walking the La Treille promenade you can see the longest bench in the world which is more than 120 metres long. It was built in 1767. It is made of 180 wooden boards.

  • A Game of Chess in Place de Neuve

If you love to play chess, you simply can’t miss this giant chess game in the Bastions Park in Place Neuve. This set of life size chess boards at the north end of the park attracts chess masters both young and old looking for a challenge.
